ATTENTION! ATTENTION!!
Calling All 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th Graders!
The time has come for Testing!
The Leap / iLEAP test is being administered at Maurice Elementary
for March 20th-24th! Try your best! Good Luck to all the students!

Dozier Leaves Maurice Elementary while Maurice Struggles To Learn The Most They Can!
On Monday, March 13, 2006 Maurice students and teachers start going to school a week since Dozier
has left on March 10. The school is bigger and has more room! But that’s not the biggest concern. March 20th
-24th is the I-LEAP Testing! And students are working as hard as they can to get what needs to be learned! Also
they learn up to two to three lessons per subject each day! But the worry is that no one has ever taken this test before because
the state of Louisiana has changed the test so no one knows what will be on the test and what to expect! One of the teacher’s
quote, “I have spoken to some teachers around the state that go all five days a week and they have not covered as much
as we covered and we were only going three days a week! I was so glad when I heard that! But I am only teaching what the state
tells me to. They tell me to not teach some stuff because it won’t be on the test. Well I say they better be right.
So all I do is tell my students is to try there best! As long as they try their hardest I will be proud of them,” says
Marlene Theriot. And students were told by principal to relax. There is nothing to worry about!

On Saturday, February 11, 2006 Maurice Elementary Junior Beta Students attended District Day in New
Iberia, at Iberia Middle School. Some six grade students competed in categories such as, Math, Public Speaking, Creative Writing,
Spelling, and Quiz Bowl. Courtney N. has placed 2nd in Creative Writing and will attend at State Convention held
in May at the Cajun Dome! Also our beta t-shirt design placed 4th which was created by Randee V. and Courtney N.
will be sent to state also! But only six graders will be able to attend! And it will have music, dances, games, and fun for
the students! So good luck to our t-shirt and Courtney!
Also over the past few weeks our Beta club sold candy bars both on campus and off. Thanks to all who
made this a great success!

“Two, Four, Six, Eight,”
“We Do Not Appreciate!”
Because of the platooning has stopped, students recesses has been cut out
or shortened. The only recess now the students have is one recess which is only twenty minutes! There used to be two recess
when combined three times the time of the recess they get now! But the reason for this is that they will not have to go in
the summer because the recess has been cut out.
